Designer Handbag Cakes

November 29th, 2008

For one of my best friend’s bridal shower’s we decided to make the theme designer handbags since she is so fond of them. I of course had to make a designer handbag cake to go with it. I actually made two different cakes, one was a replica of the Louis Vuitton “Speedy 30″ handbag and the other was the COACH Madeline handbag.

WALL-E Bridal Shower Cupcakes

October 25th, 2008

For my good friend’s bridal shower I decided to make these elegant cupcakes with a fun Wall-E topper. Both my friend and I have a strong affection for the movie Wall-E so I knew she would love this custom topper. Both Wall-E and Eve were hand molded out of fondant and then an airbrush [...]

Midnight Sun

September 23rd, 2008

This was a cake for my husband’s birthday. He loves the band Duran Duran and one of his favorite songs by them has the line “You shine like the midnight sun”. I made one of his favorite cakes, what I call the Witch’s Brew (coffee, cinnamon, and chocolate swirl), with chocolate frosting and covered it [...]

Beach-y cupcakes

July 10th, 2008

A friend of mine moved to DC this summer so I brought her these cupcakes as a housewarming gift. The cake flavor is one I invented called the “Witch’s Brew”. Years ago when we both worked at Dunkin Donuts we used to serve a drink called the Witch’s Brew during the fall. The [...]

Graduation Cupcakes

June 20th, 2008

I made these cupcakes for a co-worker of mine who was having a graduation party for her son. His school colors were red and black so I decorated a cupcake stand with construction paper to match. I made two kinds of cupcakes: Boston cream (yellow cake, pastry cream filling, chocolate ganache frosting) and chocolate [...]

Simple but elegant cupcakes

June 10th, 2008

More experiments with cupcake decorations. The chocolate cupcakes were topped with cream cheese frosting applied using a pastry bag. I make some fondant cutouts to put on top. The vanilla cupcakes were also frosted using a pastry bag and a combination of silver dragees and royal icing flowers were used as decoration.

Flower Cupcakes

May 15th, 2008

I had recently jumped on the cupcake bandwagon and I wanted to explore the many ways you can “dress up” a cupcake. I thought adding these pretty royal icing flowers as toppers to the cupcakes was a really nice touch. I used a piping bag to swirl on the frosting which makes them look neater [...]

Pick a Flower

May 12th, 2008

This was a cake I decided to make to celebrate spring. Lemon cake was covered in vanilla buttercream and decorated with hand-piped royal icing flowers (Primrose, Pansey, Daffodil, Rose, Apple Blossom, and Violet).

Cornelli Lace Cupcakes

March 5th, 2008

I was trying a few different techniques to decorate cupcakes and I tried one method called “cornelli lace”. It’s basically a random zigzagging pattern that never crosses it’s own path and the final look is pretty unique. This had to be done on a cupcake that is frosted smooth.

Slot Machine Cake

July 5th, 2007

This birthday cake was for my dad. Now that he lives in Florida one of his favorite things to do while visiting me in NJ is go to Atlantic City and play the slots. The base tier is a cake dummy that was covered in gray fondant. The “payout plaque” was made from white fondant [...]
