For my second demonstration at Michaels Arts and Crafts I decorate a variety of Holiday cookies to look like ornaments as well as snowflakes. I made my favorite vanilla rolled cookie dough and cut out circle and snowflake shapes.
A combination of Royal Icing and Color flow was used to get the various effects. I first outlined the cookies in thick royal icing and allowed to dry. I then flooded in the cookies with thinned royal icing or color flow. Once that dried I piped on a variety of ornament designs using a piping bag. To get the gold and silver accents I used luster dust mixed with a little lemon extract and then brushed it on the dry royal icing using a clean paint brush.
To get the swirl effect in these ornaments you can combine two colors of thinned royal icing and then use a toothpick to drag one color into the other.
