Communion Cake

Holy Communion Cake

This first Holy Communion cake was simple but elegant. The cake was chocolate with a mocha ganache filling and vanilla buttercream. Blue decorations were used for the communion party so I made a Catholic cross out of light blue fondant with simple fondant blossoms to match.

The writing and scroll work were done in blue buttercmrea. For the scroll work I used these very hand Wilton decorative presses. They come in very handy when you need to quickly add some decorative accents.

To do the writing I always like to print out the text I’m going to put on the cake using Microsoft word. I then put a piece of wax paper over the printout and outline in white buttercream. Stick the wax paper in the fridge or freezer until firm and then place onto the cake, buttercream side down, to imprint the writing into the cake. You now have a nice outline you can then go over with in the colored buttercream

Hi, I’m Jen

After graduating from college in 2003 I went to work as a Chemical Engineer. My new job gave me the chance to travel the world and experience many foods and cultures I had never known before. I soon rediscovered my passion for baking and cake decorating. I would always bring back new ingredients and ideas from the places I visited and incorporate them into my cake recipes. Read More…
