Solar System Cupcakes

Solar System Cupcakes

These solar system cupcakes were made for a little boy’s third birthday. He is a very smart little boy who LOVES the planets of our solar system. I made three platters of vanilla cupcakes baked in black cupcake papers, topped with a dark blue buttercream. Each platter contained all the planets of our solar system, as well as some comets, and fondant stars. The planets were all hand made out of fondant and put onto lolly-pop sticks so they could be cupcake toppers. I studied picture of the planets to try and get the colors to match as best as possible. I knew they were a hit when I arrived because the birthday boy’s eyes lit up as soon as he saw them.

What a wonderful and playful idea for a young astronomer’s special day. I have seen almost every imaginable twist on the cupcake-decorating theme but this was a truly unique perspective. I hope that little birthday boy enjoyed them as much as I did your post. For a collection of more fun cupcake ideas visit here.

Hi Funcupcake, Thank you for the wonderful comments. The birthday boy and his family did enjoy them very much. It means the world to me when my cakes bring joy to people, especially children. Thanks again!

Hi, I’m Jen

After graduating from college in 2003 I went to work as a Chemical Engineer. My new job gave me the chance to travel the world and experience many foods and cultures I had never known before. I soon rediscovered my passion for baking and cake decorating. I would always bring back new ingredients and ideas from the places I visited and incorporate them into my cake recipes. Read More…
