Market Menu – Week of July 20th

Some interesting flavors I tried last week. The Watermelon Lime was a big hit.

Watermelon Lime Cupcakes
Watermelon has become a very common fruit here in the United States and is often found at summertime BBQs. I was amazed when I discovered that the watermelon is not native to the United States, but is originally from southern Africa. Today watermelons are cultivated and used all over the world, from Japan and Vietnam, to Canada and Europe. They can be found in many salads, desserts, and drinks and are often paired with other flavors such as kiwi, lime, or mint. These cupcakes are light and refreshing with a juicy taste of watermelon and lime, topped with a key lime buttercream.

White Chocolate Cappuccino Cupcakes
Cappuccino is an Italian coffee drink consisting of espresso, hot milk, and steamed milk foam. It is often topped with shaved chocolate, sugar, or cinnamon. These cupcakes are made with white chocolate to give them a very creamy texture. They are flavored with a hint of cinnamon and then topped with a coffee buttercream.

Peaches & Cream Mini-Bundt cakes
Peaches are another fruit that you can find in just about every grocery store and farm stand in America. However the peach tree actually originates from China. Peaches were mentioned in Chinese writings as far back as the 10th century BC. It is thought that they first spread to the Middle East and Mediterranean region in ancient times. Alexander the Great then introduced them to Europe after he conquered the Persians. Today peaches have spread all over the world and are enjoyed by many cultures. These mini bundt cakes are bursting with fresh peaches and have a swirl of cream cheese to make them extra moist and creamy. A perfect summer treat!

Hi, I’m Jen

After graduating from college in 2003 I went to work as a Chemical Engineer. My new job gave me the chance to travel the world and experience many foods and cultures I had never known before. I soon rediscovered my passion for baking and cake decorating. I would always bring back new ingredients and ideas from the places I visited and incorporate them into my cake recipes. Read More…
