Easter Bunny Cake for a First Birthday

Easter Bunny Cake

This adorable Easter Bunny cakes was made for a first birthday that happened to fall on Easter Sunday. The cake was frosted in a pale yellow buttercream that I made using all natural India Tree food coloring. I’ve been trying to use natural food coloring more, especially for small children who could potentially be allergic to artificial ones. The writing on the cake as well as the little bits of grass were also done using the natural colors.

Fondant Easter Bunny Cake

The bunny was hand molded out of fondant to match the birthday party invitations along with the “Easter basket”. To make the basket I cut out a circle of fondant and wrapped it over a small metal cup that I greased slightly so it would come off easily. For the handle I wrapped a small piece of wire with fondant and attached it to the basket once it had dried. The Easter eggs are actually Cadbury mini-eggs which I happened to have on hand, probably because it is one of my favorite candies of all time!

Hi, I’m Jen

After graduating from college in 2003 I went to work as a Chemical Engineer. My new job gave me the chance to travel the world and experience many foods and cultures I had never known before. I soon rediscovered my passion for baking and cake decorating. I would always bring back new ingredients and ideas from the places I visited and incorporate them into my cake recipes. Read More…
