Easy Mother’s Day Desserts

Mother’s day is just a week away so it’s time to start planning! I don’t usually get to see my mom on Mother’s day now that she lives in Florida, but I always try to send her something nice. I’ve been searching for ideas and I thought I would share some really cute ones that I’ve found for Mother’s Day Desserts.

Cowgirl Cookies

If you are like me and need to send your gift via mail these 96 Homemade Gifts in a jar ideas are perfect. They have compiled an extensive list ranging from homemade body scrubs to a Cowgirl Cookie mix in a jar (shown left) from Bakarella.com

Valentines Day CookiesIf you love to bake like me, then you could ship your own homemade cookies. A couple of years ago I mailed my mom some decorated butter cookies like the ones shown to the right. I often use the same cookie cutter to cut out modeling chocolate (which is really easy to make), or use other cutters you have to make some interesting shapes. I then brush a little bit of thinned out jam onto the cookie to attach the cutout. You could also brush the cookie with a sugar water mixture and then cover with sprinkles or sanding sugar.

Flower BrownieNot a fan of sugar cookies? How about brownies! Jazzing up your favorite brownie recipe is super easy. Once your brownies have cooled completely in the pan use your favorite shaped cookie cutter to cut them out. Flip the brownie over so the flat size is facing up then use the same cookie cutter to cut out some rolled out modeling chocolate to place on top. Just like with the sugar cookies above I use a little thinned out jam to get the fondant/chocolate to stay.

Elegant Flower Cupcakes

If you will be having a Mother’s Day brunch then these floral cupcakes would be perfect. You can kick them up a notch with a nice presentation by arranging them into a cupcake bouquet.

Chocolate-Raspberry Tart

Last, but not least, if you are looking for an quick and easy dessert that still looks fancy than this Chocolate Raspberry Tart from Martha Stewart is perfect. Tarts are great because they often don’t require you to roll out any dough, you just press the dough mixture into the pan and bake. The chocolate ganache filling comes together quick and then you top with fresh raspberries.

I hope some of these ideas help inspire you!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Hi, I’m Jen

After graduating from college in 2003 I went to work as a Chemical Engineer. My new job gave me the chance to travel the world and experience many foods and cultures I had never known before. I soon rediscovered my passion for baking and cake decorating. I would always bring back new ingredients and ideas from the places I visited and incorporate them into my cake recipes. Read More…
