Father’s Day Cakes: A Blast From the Past

In 2004 my parents retired and moved from the frozen tundra of the north down to sunny Florida. Every year they make the trek back home to visit family and friends during the summer months…when it’s warm. My Father’s birthday is in early July, so they often are here for his birthday and we have a joint Father’s day/birthday celebration.

Over the years I’ve made my dad a lot of pretty cool Father’s Day cakes/birthday cakes. Starting with this Corvette Cake back in 2005:

Dad-WIth-Corvette-CakeI had just started cake decorating so it was one of the very first cakes I ever made! For as long as I could remember my dad had been restoring his old corvette and he finally finished it when they moved to Florida, so I just had to make him a corvette cake!

A couple of years later I made him this awesome Slot Machine Cake:
Slot Machine CakeHe loves visiting Atlantic City so a slot machine was perfect. The quarters were all made out of chocolate! I think I might have to recreate this one again soon and post a step by step how-to.

And then in 2009 I made this lovely tropical birthday cake:

Father's Day Cakes - Topical Birthday CakeI had just gotten a cake airbrush from my parents for Christmas so I wanted to test it out.

I realized today that I haven’t made him any decorated cakes like these since 2009. It’s probably because I started my business right around then. I’ve realized that I don’t have as much time to make the “fun stuff” now that I’m always working on orders. I hope to change that in the coming years, and start making more memorable cakes like these for the people who are most important in my life.

Happy Father’s Day Everyone.

Hi, I’m Jen

After graduating from college in 2003 I went to work as a Chemical Engineer. My new job gave me the chance to travel the world and experience many foods and cultures I had never known before. I soon rediscovered my passion for baking and cake decorating. I would always bring back new ingredients and ideas from the places I visited and incorporate them into my cake recipes. Read More…
