Tiger Lily Engagement Cake

Tiger Lily Engagement Cake This tiger lily cake was made for an engagement party. The color scheme was teal and orange so I was asked to make a tiered cake with teal borders and two orange gumpaste tiger lilies. I had never made gumpaste lilies before, but I did have a lily petal cutter and veining mat. I made each individual petal on a wire then brushed it with bright orange petal dust. I then added the black dots using gel paste food coloring and a paint brush. I was able to get black stamens at my local cake craft store which I tapes to a thick gauge wire and then taped each petal onto it. I thought they came out just gorgeous and I love the teal and bright orange color combination

To make the Happy Engagement sign I just cut out a large piece of fondant and inserted two skewers into it. I wrote the message in edible marker and once the fondant had dried I just stuck it into the top of the cake.

After graduating from college in 2003 I went to work as a Chemical Engineer. My new job gave me the chance to travel the world and experience many foods and cultures I had never known before. I soon rediscovered my passion for baking and cake decorating. I would always bring back new ingredients and ideas from the places I visited and incorporate them into my cake recipes. Read More…
